Paradigm Mall Kelana Jaya

Decided to pay a visit to the newly opened mall: Paradigm Mall in Kelana Jaya.

Paradigm Mall Kelana Jaya

At first glance, the design looked nice. You frequently get a ‘multi-storey’ view.

The shops selection seemed quite OK. The mix of “expensive” with “not so expensive” outlets seemed quite reasonable. The management did a good job there.

When you were upstairs, sometimes you get a nice view looking down, like this:

The restaurants were really crowded yesterday.

I didn’t really know why this shop seemed to be able to pull in such a large crowd. Won’t they get tired waiting for their dinner?

So how was the experience visiting this mall?

I would agree with those who left comments in Paradigm Mall Facebook page:
The mall was simply not ready for its opening!

1) The car park was the thing that would give you the mall’s first impression. First impression was: Fail!
When you get down to level B1, on most days it would be full. We proceeded to level B2. Here, the nightmare would start.
You would think that any parking lot available would be good. Sorry to disappoint you. No. There was a whole area of parking lots where there would be no access to the lift / staircase to the mall. You need to walk a long distance to get to the proper lift.

2) There were very limited escalators / lift with the access to the mall. You really would need to search for them! Once you located your lift, there were a real lengthy wait for the lift to come to you. Almost felt as long as we were waiting for the planet to align itself to the sun at a proper angle!

3) After we entered the lift, immediately we felt there was something not quite right with its ventilation. Suffocation was on our mind!

4) Finally, we reached our destination: The Mall proper. This was the time we realised why we had to wait for the lift: The mall was split into too many levels! What was UG? CC ? Huh? Ever heard of such level?

5) When we reached the Popular Bookstore, to our horror, we found out that there was very poor signal for our Maxis mobile phone. Could you imagine in the era when every kid was bringing his/her Ipad/Samsung Galaxy, and we proudly talked about 300 friends on Facebook for each of us, there was still poor reception area within a modern shopping complex? We simply could not make a call, nor received any call. We tried in vain, walking around like idiots, through various shops in that area. The signal was simply too poor! I should probably point out that for the whole level B2, there wasn’t any signal either! Digital age, eh? Paradigm mall, eh?
6) When we decided to leave the mall, it hit us that the nightmare wasn’t over. We took one of the lift bomba down to level B2. Would you believe that the door of the lift was still being held up by wooden frame which was flimsily held together by some tapes? That was 10 days after the mall’s opening?

7) When we were driving from level B2 for the exit, we were driving around in circles! There just weren’t enough signage around. Adding salt to the wound, the ramp leading from B2 to B1 was … puny! The ramp reminded us of? Jaya Supermarket in Section 14. Yes! Those buildings built more than 30 years ago! Who would think that modern building done in 2012 would have such close resemblance? Not in a good way, mind you.

8 ) When we followed the ‘keluar’ signs, there was even this ridiculous corner. Yes. Ridiculous. It wasn’t built with a car passing through, I guessed. I need to reverse my car in order to navigate this corner properly! Who designed such poor passage? I wasn’t even driving any big car! And yes, the car following me had to do similar manoeuvre to get through. By this time, I have totally lost hope. The Paradigm Mall certainly was not a welcoming place, at least for us.
If you are thinking of going to this place, I sincerely hope that you will have better luck. Let’s face it. Within 20 minutes of driving, we have a choice of:
1) IPC / Ikea
2) Tesco Mutiara
3) E@curve
4) 1 Utama
5) Midvally Megamall
6) Tropicana City Mall

And that’s not including smaller outlets like:
7) Jaya 33
8 ) Jaya 1
9) Sunway Giza

Even much smaller buildings like Square 32 has much better car park!

Don’t torture yourself.

  1. That’s quite an in-depth review! Sushi Zanmai always commands such long queues, and for this reason I’ve never stepped inside? What am I missing I wonder?

  2. I totally agree with the parking issues you mentioned. Imagine I have to carry my kids all the way to the escalator because I parked at the wrong area. Tips for everyone, if you visit make sure you park around the orange zone (not green zone).

Visited last Saturday and it was totally packed. Guess everyone like me wanted to see the mall for the first time. I took this lift to the LG floor and ended up trapped in a locked room. Need to wait for the lift again and take it back up to CC level.

There’s no place to rest or sit, and it felt too crowded, too narrow and ‘confined’. I was so scared of losing my kids. For sure I won’t be able to find them again because it was

I prefer to travel further to other malls even though this mall only 5 mins from my condo :)

Oh yeah, you can add Citta mall to your list. It’s quite near Kelana Jaya too.

  3. Just planning to visit the new mall. But after reading these i would rather not waste my time. Thanks for sharing. They should start doing some changes for the benefit of everybody.

  4. Umm… nothing much if you want to jalan-jalan. But they have mostly restaurants and lots of parking space so it’s convenient to bring family for a meal. The only major store is Harvey Norman.

  5. 101% AGREED WITH THE ABOVE COMMENTS & FEEDBACK. To add salt to the wound, the tenant staffs are not able to get reasonable price meal cos even a 5inch dia. roti canai comes to almost RM3.00! One has to travel to/fro from the mall would already wasted almost 40-50mins, let alone the other 10-20mins to order and eating time!

  6. was planing to bring my dad there to celebrated father’s day but having read this i’m having second thoughts about going now. Is it really that bad? If its true i’ll go either 1 utama or sunway pyramid

  7. They opened the mall with the entire rear wing of the building incomplete. How can the town council allow such a thing? And it’s SO close to the LDP. Unbelievable. There’s also the LDP exit near the Kelana Medical Center side. That ridiculous turning there is just waiting for a head-on-head collision. How much corruption and bribery was used to get this mall approved?

The top floor parking is just as bad as the basement parking. You have to climb like 5 floors, round and round all the way to the same floor as GSC. It’s extremely confusing and an absolute waste of space.

  8. The Paradigm Mall just appears from no where. Although the concept of the mall is good, but the design of the car park is really poor. Besides, things there are quite expensive, especially the food.

Better just go One Utama, Tropicana City or Sunway Pyramid.

  9. went there for the 3rd time since it opened to the public.
agree: parking layout a bit “weird” , maybe that’s why its still free
agree: food choices available still not quite affordable to me, i wonder where’s the food court and where do staffs of the building and outlets go for their meals? probably quite well paid to enjoy TGIF or those fancy Jap outlets for lunch everyday?

mobile reception was ok for me, i’m using Celcom… though i hate the way calculate my data usage.

but then probably its still not fully functional yet…?
will come back in year’s time and see how they perform.
oh… will come back next week after payday to buy 1 adidas tee and 1 nike tee. beats going elsewhere since i’m staying at Pangsapuri Kelena Impian… LOLLL

  10. The car park stinks like the sewers. The signage and levels markers are confusing and not obvious. Cellular coverage near the top floor. The interior is dull, tacky and uninspiring. I regret coming here just to do grocery.
